Ahead of the Event..
4/7/2011
As some of you may already now, this week I am making my way down the M4 to Newport, Gwent to participate in the 2011 Ras de Cymru.
This isn't 'the Ras', (the Irish Elite one) - this is for 2/3 cats only. However I hasten to mention that there are plenty of people riding who have just upgraded to 1st cat, namely Dave Barnes of East London Velo, Matt Pilkington of ProgressiveCycleCoaching - as well as a few talented Juniors, one of which has just won the National Junior RR Champs' (Daniel Pearson) and Alex Peters who finished 4th in the aforementioned event, and who I am pleased to say is in my Team.
In other words, it ain't a walk in the park.
The stage profiles describe 'rolling' terrain. I suspect this will mean up and down on a much grander scale what the Eastern Region Road Race League has on offer.
The Ras de Cymru (pronounced 'come-ree') is a 5 Stage Team Stage Race. It will consist of some pre-organised teams of riders, or of composite teams put together from individually entered riders.
I'm proud to say that I've been asked to represent the Eastern Region of the UK in a team consisting of riders from CCHackney, Alex Peters 2J and Myself 2, - Cambridge CC, Owen Lake 2,- and Jack Clark of VC Norwich. Our Directeur Sportif (DS) will be Alan Rosner, who some of you will remember for organising this year's Tour of the Dengie Marshes which commenced Rapha-Condor-Sharp's domination of this Season's Premier Calendar events.
I'll be posting from the Campus of University of Wales, Newport from tomorrow onwards so watch this space for updates on my Team's progress.
(P.S. Thank for Norman Bright of the Publication 'After the Event' for inspiring the Title of this Blog Post).
